Notepads + Frameable Cards, Oh My!

frameable cards

You may have seen the sneak peeks throughout the last few weeks, but today is the day. I am so excited to announce the launch of our NEW products: notepads + frameable cards. I'm a paper lover at heart, and I love sending handmade (and hand lettered) gifts! One of my favorite little snail mail goodies I send are inspiration quotes + sayings. Others liked this service, so the idea of offering a "frameable" card was born. How nice would it be to mail a friend a little pick me up that they can frame or pin to their bulletin board as a reminder? Well now you can! Each card is 5x7 and comes with a small little notecard for you to write your message on instead of the print. Sign, seal and mail for someone to receive a little happy in their mailbox!

And then there are the notepads! You can never have too many notepads, am I right? And they make great little hostess + teacher gifts! All notepads are printed in black and white with a fun hand lettered saying! Choose from dream big, just sayin, XOXO, groceries, and everyone's favorite get sh#t done. Add a pen from our supply shop and you have a great little package!

Hope you enjoy the new goods! Would love to hear what your favorites are! And the first 20 orders today will receive a FREE card with purchase! Enjoy.

XOXO,

Heather

Summer Bucket List 2016 + Giveaway

Giveaway winner is Roselle P!

Today marks the last day of school for us in Texas, which means summer is officially upon us. And I keep having the song "school's out for summer" replaying in my head. The kids and I started a tradition last year, and it was such a hit that we're doing it again, but this time sharing it with all of you! We wrote out all the things we wanted to do over the summer and created a fun "bucket list" for all to see. That list hung on the fridge throughout the summer months, and the kids were so excited to check things off! We were able to look forward to our big trips and it gave us ideas on the days we had nothing to do. So I thought, why not create one that we can share with everyone, and then leave a few blank spots for you to fill in your own plans!? And that's exactly what I did. So, without further ado... meet our Summer Bucket List 2016! Feel free to print it out, add to it, and then hang on your own fridge. We like to color things in as we do them, but you can come up with your own system. Click on the image below and grab the free PDF printable! (this is for personal use only)

3rd Annual Envelope Contest Winner!

Happy Tuesday y'all! Once again, we were overjoyed with the response we got for our #drMailSwap16! Checking our mailbox during the month of April became my favorite thing, and I loved seeing all the unique envelopes and sweet notes inside. A huge thank you to all who participated and sent something in during National Letter Writing Month! We had everything from watercolor, gold ink, zentangles, trees + florals,a nod to Texas, and even illuminated letters! There were definitely a few that stood out to me, but before we announce our winner, we have to show you some of our favorites!

Watercolor gets me every time... and I love the different uses here!

And being a Texas girl, I flipped out over this one!

But there was one envelope that took my breath away. This envelope had so many pieces to it, including a beautiful brush lettering print inside. This envelope has inspired me to pull out my gold leaf and brush up on my illuminated letters. So the winner of this year's envelope contest goes to...(drumroll please)... Cherie T. from Savannah, Texas! Congrats girl - keep up the good work! Please email me for details ;)

Mother's Day Printable + Tieks Giveaway!

Giveaway closed. Our lucky winner is Danielle! Congrats on the gift card AND for expecting a little after years of trying!!

Mother's Day is right around the corner, so I thought it'd be nice to treat YOU!

Being a mom is the most rewarding and challenging role I have known. I always joke with my husband that I've got a secret cape on my back, and when I'm having bad days my cape is flying low. Now I may not have a cape, but I do have my favorite shoes that keep me feeling like I have super-powers and I wear them all. the. time. And if you know me, you know exactly which shoes I'm gushing about...my tieks. They are super cute, super comfy, and help me feel put together without wearing heels. I walk my kids to school in them, I teach classes in them, I wear them for errands, to dinner, etc. So I thought...why not honor one special mom with a gift card towards their OWN pair of tieks. So for this Mother's Day, I'm giving one lucky winner a $100 e-gift card towards their own pair of shoes. And to make it even sweeter, I'm sharing two free printables that you can print and gift to the special mom in your life. Download them here. You can print on colored paper, or print on white and add color yourself (I added watercolor here) -

To enter, first make sure you are following both @designroots and @tieks over on Instagram. Then, please comment below with your favorite part about being a mom, along with what color tieks you would pick! (that's the hard part). Make sure to include your instagram handle in your comment! Winner will picked from blog comments, and will be announced this Sunday on Mother's Day.

Traveling with Supplies

best travel art supplies

As we have been planning for our Spring Break trip with the kids, I've also been thinking about which art supplies I want to take with me. I don't know about you, but I never leave home without some sort of pen/marker in my bag. But when we travel for a week - I want to make sure I have some supplies with me. Plane rides, hearing a quote that you just need to doodle, business ideas, or keeping kids busy - you never know when you'll need a good notebook and pen! Travel sparks inspiration for me, and I want to be ready! At the same time, you have to be smart about what you take. The last thing you need is to weigh your bag down with pens + notebooks. First up, a good selection of writing utensils. My pics this time: a few Tombow Brush Markers, Pentel Sign Pens, a regular ball point pen, pencil, eraser, and then I throw in one pen I haven't used before. If you're wanting something more - the Aquabrush is the perfect travel watercolor tool! You just fill the vessel with water and take a set of your colors, or like me just take 2-3 single colors. (My watercolor set is Pelikan and you can just pop out a couple colors at a time instead of traveling with the full set). And I'm still debating on taking my pen + ink, but if you must here's some tricks: take just a small pot of ink and place in plastic bag before you pack, a roll of washi tape is the perfect holder for the ink to stay still, use a small envelope for the nibs, and just take your favorite holder. Once you've picked your top choices, throw in your favorite canvas pouch and you're ready to go!

travel pens and supplies

Now that you have pens, you need paper! I will admit that I am a notebook junkie, and will usually grab 2 for the trip. Here are my favorite go-to's! Moleskine, Rhodia blank pads (order in half size), Inkwell Press journals (paper is gridded and a nice weight), May Designs custom notebooks (thin and lightweight, blank paper), Design Roots coloring book (for the kids), and my new Fillion from Little Mountain Bindery to hold my favorites together in one place.

Do you have a favorite list of supplies you travel with? I'd love to hear so I can test out next time!

for the Love of Monograms + giveaway

I have always had a thing for monograms, and now that you can find it everywhere - I can't get enough! I think my hubby is starting to wonder what else I can personalize! Here are a few of my faves right now! I didn't realize how much I gravitated towards the circle style!

Want to get your hands on some of these?? Here are the details:

  1. I had my friend Michelle from Chelle Belle Baby monogram our pillow shams, and LOVE how they turned out! She customizes everything from towels to kids shirts to baby bloomers!
  2. This is one obsession of mine: May Books. I'm a little embarrassed to admit how many I actually own. I use them for my ideas & doodles, current jobs, grocery lists, calendar, etc. You can choose from many patterns and then customize to your liking! Great quality and perfect size for your purse.
  3. I saw this gift idea through Pinterest, and found out the shop was in Houston. Isn't this the cutest little gift for a baptism gift or new baby?? And they were great to work with too!
  4. Date night? Girls night? (anywhere without kids basically) This monogrammed clutch was a great purchase from The Find Auctions! Can be worn cross-body or carried as a clutch.
  5. And this last one is from FourPandas. I just purchased this monogram for one of my trays, and I'm about to purchase another one for my tumbler! They have great stuff in their shop, and shipping was fast!

And the icing on the cake to this post? A GIVEAWAY! Chelle Belle Baby (who monogrammed my shams) and FourPandas (the decal on my tray) have graciously donated items from their shop! One lucky winner will receive a set of monogrammed towels and a second winner will receive 1 customized vinyl decal (5" or smaller)!  Here's how you play: leave a comment here on the blog with your favorite monogrammed thing, and which you'd like to win!

Winners will be chosen this Wednesday, July31st!
